What do I do if my key breaks off in the lock?
Stop turning anything. Don't push the broken half deeper. Call your Indian Trail, NC locksmith — most broken-key extractions take 10–20 minutes and don't require a new lock.
When a key breaks in a lock or ignition, the worst thing you can do is keep trying. Forcing the broken half deeper with another key, a screwdriver or pliers usually damages the lock cylinder — turning a $30 extraction into a $300 lock replacement.
Step 1: leave the broken half in the lock. Step 2: don't try to turn the lock. Step 3: call your Indian Trail, NC locksmith. We carry key-extraction tools that pull broken halves cleanly without harming the cylinder.
Once the broken half is out, your Indian Trail, NC locksmith can usually cut you a fresh key on the spot. We can also rekey the lock so the broken key (or its match) stops working entirely.
Our local Indian Trail, NC locksmith is available 6 AM – 11:30 PM, every day.
